The European Union funded project “Strengthening the Capacities of SMAPs (Small and Medium Sized Accommodation Providers) in Nepal and Sri Lanka in Order to Develop New Business Opportunities through Quality Upgrade, eTourism Know-how and Networking” aiming at reinforcing economic growth through capacity building and know-how transfer for SMAPs in Asia, especially in Nepal and Sri Lanka by setting up a so-called “SMAP Training Academy” in Nepal and Sri Lanka: upgrading the product and service quality of SMAPs in the two countries, training them in information based technologies in the form of eCoaching, establishing a system of continuous education, promoting the exchange of best practice and lessons learnt between Asia-Europe and Asia-Asia respectively has conducted a regional symposium in Kathmandu Nepal on 19th August 2010. The reports were presented by the Austrian experts from Salzburg based on the research done earlier months in Nepal and Sri Lanka.
The participants of the ‘Symposium’ were the tourism experts from Austria, Sri Lankan tourism authorities and Nepalese tourism entrepreneurs and tourism professionals. The whole day program was provided with the platform to the speakers and experts to express their views, on top of that the interaction program was somehow able to convey the message of project act replication through the Nepal Tourism Authorities and stakeholders in the respected countries.
The Sustainability Award
The project together won the 2nd place: "Sustainability Award Forum Environment" for our SMAPs project. The certificate was given by the Federal Ministry of Science and Research and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Environment from the Government of Austria.
